Chorulon®

Human Chorionic Gonadotrophin (hCG) injection for reproductive management.

Chorulon – Predictable and synchronised ovulation.

Reproductive hormones have been used in equine reproduction for over 30 years. The use of several different hormone analogues (including Chorulon) allows us to manage the mare’s oestrus cycle in a variety of ways. It is possible to suppress oestrus and oestrus behaviour, control the timing of oestrus, induce ovulation, induce luteolysis to promote timely return to oestrus, and assist maintenance of high-risk pregnancies.

Chorulon contains the complex glycoprotein – human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG) that induces the ovulation of the dominant follicle and the formation of a corpus luteum (CL).

Other analogues include altrenogest (a synthetically steroidal progestagen contained in Regumate®), cloprostenol (a synthetic prostaglandin contained in Estrumate®), and buserelin (a synthetic GnRH contained in Receptal®). These products can be used on their own or in combination with a comprehensive reproductive programme involving two or more hormones.

Key benefits of using reproductive hormones for control of the equine breeding cycle:

  • Allows pre-planning to minimise costs.
  • Proven and accurate results.
  • Cost-effective management of equipment, stud staff and veterinary time.
  • Programmes can be ceased at any time and mares will return to oestrus within a normal cycle.

The use of these hormones under close veterinary supervision facilitates management of single or groups of mares (stud) without any detrimental effect on the mare’s fertility.
